Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Firearm

FREDERICK, Md. (January 13, 2025) – On January 9, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM, a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop of a silver Toyota Camry with three occupants in the 3400 block of Urbana Pike. Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies detected the odor of marijuana and observed open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle in plain view. Through further investigation, it was determined that all occupants of the vehicle were under the age of 21.


The occupants were asked to exit the vehicle, and a search was conducted due to the presence of open containers. During the search, the deputy discovered a loaded Canik TP9 9mm handgun concealed in one of the individual’s pants.


The firearm was identified as one of thirteen firearms reported stolen from a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) in West Virginia in July 2024. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is actively investigating this case as part of its ongoing efforts to recover the stolen firearms.


The juvenile suspect was placed under arrest, transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, and charged as an adult with the following offenses:


-Possession of Firearm/Minor

-Possession of Firearm/Minor (Ammunition)

-Regulated Firearm: Stolen/Sell Etc.

-Loaded Handgun on Person

-Handgun on Person

-Loaded Handgun in Vehicle

-Handgun in Vehicle
