Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision in Frederick

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE


FREDERICK, Md. (December 22, 2024) –On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at approximately 5:10 a.m., deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in the area of Sundays Lane and Bartgis Road in Frederick.

Preliminary investigation determined that a Toyota Corolla, operated by 52-year-old Kyint Cope of Frederick, MD, veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with two trees. Despite the efforts of Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services (DFRS), Cope was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit will continue to investigate this incident. Initial findings suggest that excessive speed and alcohol consumption may have been contributing factors in the collision.
