Traffic Stop Results in Recovery of Stolen Handgun and Drugs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FREDERICK, Md. (February 17, 2026) – On February 15, 2026, at approximately 4:09 p.m., a deputy with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a gray 2010 Honda Pilot for failure to display a registration plate on Interstate 70 westbound in the area of Harmony Road.
Upon making contact with the driver and four passengers, additional deputies responded to assist. During the course of the investigation, consent to search the vehicle was obtained. During the search, deputies found a loaded Ruger LCP .380 caliber handgun inside. They also located MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) that had been hidden inside a beverage container.
Further investigation revealed the handgun had been reported stolen out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were charged:
Jonah Christian Cahill, 21, of Kalamazoo, Michigan (passenger), was charged with:
· Firearm possession with a prior violent/felony conviction (Felony)
· Regulated firearm – stolen (Felony)
· Loaded handgun in vehicle (Misdemeanor)
· Handgun in vehicle (Misdemeanor)
· Regulated firearm illegal possession (Misdemeanor)
· Illegal possession of ammunition (Misdemeanor)
Cahill was transported to and booked at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and is currently being held without bond pending a bond review hearing.
Aaron Dashawn Yarbrough, 40, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, was charged with:
· Criminal citation for CDS possession (MDMA)
· Driving suspended
· Knowingly driving uninsured
· Driving an unregistered vehicle
Yarbrough was issued criminal and traffic citations and released on scene.
