Two Men Arrested in Connection with Suspected Catalytic Converter Theft

FREDERICK, Md. (July 15, 2026) – Today, deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office Proactive Criminal Enforcement (PACE) Team and K-9 Unit arrested two men after interrupting an attempted catalytic converter theft in Frederick County.


Deputies were conducting surveillance on a vehicle believed to be connected to recent catalytic converter thefts in Frederick County.


At approximately 2:45 a.m. on July 15, the suspect vehicle parked in the area of Old Camp Road and Stonegate Drive. Deputies observed one of the occupants exit the vehicle carrying a Sawzall before crawling underneath a van parked along the roadway. Deputies immediately moved in and safely took both suspects into custody without incident.


The suspects were identified as:


  • Robert Droneburg, 50, of Frederick, Maryland

  • Jared Specht, 35, of Sykesville, Maryland


Searches of the suspects and the vehicle resulted in the recovery of several items of evidentiary value, including multiple tools commonly used to steal catalytic converters, various registration plates, suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, and two catalytic converters believed to be stolen.


Droneburg was charged with:


  • Two counts of Possession of Burglary Tools – Motor Vehicle (Misdemeanor)

  • Two counts of Rogue and Vagabond (Misdemeanor)

  • Two counts of CDS Possession – Not Cannabis (Misdemeanor)

  • One count of CDS Possession of Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor)


Specht was charged with:


  • Two counts of Possession of Burglary Tools – Motor Vehicle (Misdemeanor)

  • Two counts of Rogue and Vagabond (Misdemeanor)

  • One count of CDS Possession – Not Cannabis (Misdemeanor)

  • One count of Failure to Obey a Lawful Order (Misdemeanor)


Following an appearance before a District Court Commissioner, both Droneburg and Specht were released on their own recognizance.
